T-Mobile G1: Better than the iPhone?

THE ISSUE

English: T-Mobile's G1 phone (HTC Dream), using Google's Android software

T-Mobile's G1 smartphone, the first phone to incorporate Google's Android operating system, is now in the hands of ordinary people.  With many features similar to Apple's iPhone, as well as an "open" marketplace for applications, does the G1 beat the iPhone at its own game?

I've tried them both... the G1 is definitely clunkier and less intuitive.  There's a lack of consistency in the user interface between applications, and it doesn't support multi-touch yet.  Not to mention the phone itself, which is big and ugly compared to the iPhone.

I like the idea of Google's Android OS, however.  Maybe I'll take another look in a year or so.
